Voting Absentee

Do you or someone you know need an absentee ballot? Download the absentee ballot application online here

Any person eligible to vote can apply for an absentee ballot and then vote by using that ballot for the following reasons:

  • Are you an active member of the armed forces of the United States?

  • Will you be out of town on Election Day?

  • Does sickness prevent you from voting in person on Election Day?

  • Do your religious beliefs prevent you from performing secular activities like voting on Election Day?

  • Will you be performing duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own on Election Day?

  • Does a physical disability prevent you from voting in person on election day?

Voting by absentee ballot is a basic, two-step process:

  1. First you must complete an application for an absentee ballot (applications are available now);

  2. Second, you need to complete the ballot itself, and return it before the election.

Turning the two-step process into one step.

If you have time, the easiest way to vote by absentee ballot is to go into the Town Clerk’s office in person and fill out an application for the ballot AND complete the resulting ballot at the same time.

Step 1: Submit an Application for the Absentee Ballot

Anyone registered to vote can complete an application for an absentee ballot by either:

  1. Downloading the absentee ballot application online here and mailing it to the Avon Town Clerk’s office;

  2. Picking it up and filling it out in person at the Town Clerk’s office, or

  3. Calling the Town Clerk and asking that it be mailed to them (all that contact information is below) and then submitting it back via mail or fax.

Step 2: Complete and Submit the Absentee Ballot

Once you receive the absentee ballot, you must then complete it and submit it by mail or in person. This is great for people who cannot make it to the Town Clerk’s office during office hours, or for kids who will still be in college at the time of a vote. If you plan on doing it by mail, don’t delay. The completed ballot needs to be received before Election Day.

The Town Clerk’s office is located at 60 West Main Street, and is open from 8:30 – 4:30, Monday through Friday. You can contact the Town Clerk’s office at 860-409-4310 to request your application or ask additional questions.
