Candidate for Board of Finance

• Resident of Avon since 1983.
• Married to Joan Thompson in 1972. Four children, all of whom have gone through the Avon School system.
• Member of the Church of St. Ann; former Chairman of the Parish Council.  Current member of the Cemetery Committee and an instructor in the Confirmation Program.
• Undergraduate degree in English from Fairfield University, 1971
• Law Degree from Suffolk University Law School, with honors, 1975.
• Partner in the Hartford Law Firm of Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, P.C.
• Former Chairman of the Avon Democratic Town Committee
• Member of Avon Charter Revision Commission
• Presently completing second full term as a member of the Avon Board of Finance

Over the past 8+ years on the Board of Finance, I have added to the dialogue and discussion necessary for the creation of a responsible budget over those years.  At times, it has been necessary to take a position and work to move the budget process ahead.  I think I have done that, with respect for those involved, and with resolve to get to a result that the taxpayers in Avon can accept.  Developing a good, workable budget requires equal parts of information, intuition and persuasion.  After 8 or so years of working with other members of the Board, as well as the members of the Town Council and Board of Education, I think I am in a position to add leadership to the process.  The fact that this is an opportunity for me to give something back to the town that I love is a bonus.
